New to the Pack? Follow these steps for Scouting success:
Learn more about our program and submit required pack dues: Pack 296 FAQs and Parent Info Packet
Check out our calendar and save the dates, for both monthly meetings + special activites: Pack Meeting and Activity Calendar
Purchase the uniform and handbook for your Scout: Guide to uniforms and handbooks
Become involved! We ask all adults to help at least once during the Scout year, either as a registered leader or as a helper for a specific meeting or event (e.g. campout or pinewood prep). The pack is 100% run by volunteers so we need the help! See more info here: Volunteer to Help
Invite some friends! Invite them to a meeting, or send them this website. Scouts that refer a friend that joins get a special "recruiter" patch. Note that Scouts can join the program year-round.
About Oakland Pack 296...
Looking for a way to get your child outside and away from screens? Want to see her have fun while growing her self confidence with new skills? Want him to be a more helpful and inclusive citizen? Cub Scouts Pack 296 might just be for you! We are currently welcoming children of all genders K-5th grades to join our pack!
Through fun and games, we engage in exciting outdoor activities like hiking, camping, and archery while teaching essential life skills such as knot-tying and first aid. Our Scouts learn to embody the values of trustworthiness, courtesy, and cheerfulness as they contribute to their communities through volunteering. With a motto of 'Do Your Best', we instill our Scouts with values drawn from the Scout Oath and Law.
Pack 296 meets twice a month, typically on Wednesdays at 6:30pm, and we also arrange weekend activities such as campouts, hikes, volunteer opportunities, and the much-anticipated Pinewood Derby. Led by dedicated volunteers, Pack 296 is an inclusive community that embraces all children. Find out more from our Pack Calendar, and click here to express your interest and be invited to an upcoming pack meeting.
What Cub Scouts Do
Through activities, games, and crafts all the Scouts in our pack have fun learning skills and building friendships.
Cub Scouts also includes activities tailored to specific ages, which Scouts do with other Scouts their own age as part of a den. Check out a sample of some of the adventures, and click on each link to see the full list.
After 5th grade, Cub Scouts can join Scouts BSA (formerly Boy Scouts, now accepting Scouts of all genders), and continue their adventures and journey all the way to Eagle Scout.

Where we Serve
Pack 296 has pack meetings at Joaquin Miller Community Center, and so most of our Scouts come from the surrounding areas of the upper and lower Oakland Hills. This includes neighborhoods such as Montclair, Shepherd Canyon, Piedmont Pines, Joaquin Miller, Woodminster, Crestmont, Upper Dimond, Oakmore, Lincoln Highlands, Redwood Heights, Forestland, and Glen Highlands. Most of our Oakland Scouts come from schools such as Montclair Elementary, Thornhill Elementary, Joaquin Miller Elementary, and Redwood Heights Elementary.
There are absolutely no location requirements, however, and we welcome any family who would like to join our pack. If you are outside of one of the above neighborhoods and would like to see if there is a closer pack to where you live, check out the helpful tool here: https://www.scouting.org/programs/cub-scouts/
