February Cubmaster Corner

posted Feb 17, 2019, 6:28 PM by Cub Master
Having run an AWESOME Pinewood Derby, it's time to look ahead to the Blue and Gold Banquet.  And it's not too far ahead!  Just a week from Wednesday.

Who: Everyone is welcome
What: A potluck, awards ceremony and meeting with the Mayor of Oakland.
Where: Montclair Elementary School Cafeteria *
When: 2/27, from 6-830pm
Why: Because we love getting together and celebrating with our Scouting family!

The Details ...

DIP OFF! - Each den brings food for its own potluck as well as an entry into the 2nd Annual SAVORY DIP OFF.  Last year, a den brought a chocolate dip and won handily!  But sweet dips will be DQd from the competition this year! (And we're providing cake anyway.)  I know it's silly to have such strong feelings about this but I'm using my !!ultimate power!! as Cubmaster to make this call here.

THE MAYOR and AWARDS - We'll be giving out Pinewood Derby and other awards and Mayor Schaaf had so much fun the last time that she visited with us that she's joining us again to answer kids questions about Oakland and the world.

Upcoming Events

All events for the rest of the year can be found on our website but here's what we're looking at in the next couple of months.

PERALTA CUP - Please represent Pack 296 at the Peralta Cup which is March 16th.  RSVP here and check out all of the details on the attached flyers.

Go Karts - We want to do our Go Karts activity again this year but we're looking for just a couple more parent volunteers to make this happen.  Please reach out to me if you're interested in working with experienced people to pull this off.

March Pack Meeting - Held on the 3rd Wednesday (the 20th) instead of the 4th due to OUSD Spring Break.  The focus will be preparing for the Campout.

Pack Campout! - Saturday April 13th at Hawk Ridge Campground (Anthony Chabot Regional Park)

Please contact me with any questions!

* We looked into getting another space given concerns about the strike but it was prohibitively expensive on this notice for this number of people.  We've consulted with a striking teacher at OUSD and he said he wouldn't consider this crossing the picket line since it's off school hours. Please reach out to me if you have any concerns.
