Hello folks, Cubmaster Micah here!  You're going to be getting these "Cubmaster Chat" emails generally the first Wednesday of every month.  But since we have a few things to prepare for in September, you're getting this one a little early.

UPGRADED PACK WEBSITE!

Thanks to our Webmaster extraordinaire, Paul Markette, we've redone our website and it will be a reliable source of information about events during the year and contact info for den and pack leaders.

You can access it here: http://www.pack296cubs.org/

IMPORTANT DATES FOR SEPTEMBER

Your Den Meeting - Most Dens will begin to meet in September, keep an eye out for a separate communication from your Den Leaders with more information.

Saturday, September 15th 11:00am - 1:30pm Back to School Picnic (Pinewood Picnic Area, Joaquin Miller Park) This is for returning and new families to reconnect and  barbecue and play some games.  Meet new folks, get questions answered, engage in epic rounds of potato sack racing.  Same place as we've held the picnic for the last couple of years.  There will be a **uniform swap** at this picnic and the first pack meetings.  If you have uniform pieces that your son has grown out of that you'd like to pass along, please bring them.  Folks can take things from the uniform box on a first come first served basis.

September 22-23rd Angel Island Campout This was a ton of fun so we're going to do it again.  It's a one night campout at the Service Camp at Angel Island on a trip that involves a couple of hours of providing service to the rangers of the park which ends up being lots of fun in some unspeakably beautiful corner of that amazing island.  Watch out for the raccoons though!  Keep an eye out for a separate email with a sign up link.

Wednesday, September 26th First Pack Meeting of the Year, 6:30pm - 8:00pm (Sequoia AND Montera) This will be our first pack meeting of the year and it will be a "split" pack meeting with the dens in the Montclair Area meeting at Montera Middle and the dens down the hill meeting at Sequoia Elementary.   There is a chance we'll be moving the Montera meeting to one of the elementary schools in the neighborhood.  We'll let you know as soon as possible.

I'm putting this last because this is just for new parents  ...

Wednesday, September 12th 7:00pm - 8:30pm Recruitment Night (Joaquin Miller Elementary) This is for new parents so none of you but maybe your friends?  We're going to be fielding, in particular, questions about Dens for Girls and figuring out how we're going to organize them based on amount of interest.

DUES

Dues for the year are now $175.  Please pay before September 30th at https://www.paypal.me/pack296cubs

In the note field, please put your child's name, den number, your name and the best email and phone number to reach you at. We'll be providing reminders.

Dues are somewhat higher to accommodate additional charges from the Council.  Though this is still substantially less expensive than most other yearlong Bay Area activities, we understand that it can still be a stretch so please chat with your den leader if this is going to be a hardship.  As a reminder, we charge these dues so that, unlike most other packs and troops, we don't engage in any fundraising activities that can be very time consuming.

SUMMER PASSPORT

At our final meeting, I mentioned the Cub Summer Passport program.  Here is the booklet for the program.  We will recognize the scouts at the first Pack meeting of the year on Wednesday September 26th.  You have until then to finish the activities.  Those who finish 15 or more activities will get a 4 function watch/compass. Those who finish 23 or more will get an LED headlamp.  Take a look. These are many activities you may already be doing together as a family!  Please inform me by sending me an email whether your son has reached these milestones.  I'll trust you.

WELCOMING GIRLS

As you may have heard/read, Cub Scouts are welcoming girls this year.  We don't at this point know how much interest there is going to be from girls in our area. Once we do, we'll figure out exactly how this will work our in our Pack.

So welcome back y'all!!  If you have any questions about anything, please do not hesitate to ask.

Best,
Cubmaster Micah
